VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH - Tim aged 18 "Life was going all right! I was into the second year of A levels, had two part time jobs, I was taking driving lessons and I was out and about everywhere on my bike and playing football. Then came the accident, in December last year. While working, I had a fall and seriously injured my foot. Everything came to a halt. My friends came to see me every day, but being in plaster, on crutches, nearly drove me mad. In February when I was just out of plaster, I was assaulted, and my foot re-fractured. Going back into plaster and onto crutches again was a nightmare come true summer and my 18th birthday not far off. I got through the summer and my friends all went off to their new jobs and colleges. Where was I going? I felt very down There seemed no point in trying I felt that I was going to be limping around for ever. That was when Mum found The WDVDA Team. She explained to them how things were and it was arranged for me to go in for a chat. I told them I liked figures and they had me helping out in the office in no time. It gave me something else to think about. I am now in my first full-time job and life has started up again. Sometimes you need to get MAD (making a difference)!" |
